Support Your Neighbor: All-Times Essentials
For a period while we were all locked down at homes during covid-19 a lot of things has changed in our lives; or we changed perception of them. But there are real true things that never change, like supporting and sharing with people who live next to us.
To raise the topics like supporting people who surround us; women; homeless; hungry people; people with special abilities in the framework of Sustainable Growth Program powered by HSBC Turkey, Hackquarters is constantly organizing online meetups. Following two previous meetups in February and June; 3rd online meetup was touching the topic of Supporting Your Neighbor.
Hunger
Roughly 820 million people don’t not have enough food every year; while obesity numbers continue to increase in different parts of the world. This means that every 1 of 9 people on this planet have problems with finding sufficient food. Especially when it comes to middle or low income countries; these numbers can even get worse while pandemic as 98% of people who have problems with food access live in developing countries. The highest rate is in Asia with more that half billion people who don’t have enough food because of natural disasters; climate problems or food waste. The risk of being food insecure are higher for women than men in every continent. More than 60% of the world’s hungry are females. Mustafa Özer from Imece touched the issues of increasing collective awareness on these essential but very important topics.
Sultan Nur Bulut, Tridi- 3D printed medical equipment and devices startup, currently in Bayer G4A Program run by Hackquarters will present case study of social campaign during covid-19.
Women Power
Empowering women is one of the topics that we as Hackquarters love most. Talking about empowerment we, first of all, mean access to education; career and entrepreneurship opportunities; access to fair work. Around the world women are more included into the decision-making process now. Number of female MPs raised from 12% in 1997 up to 23% in 2015. But raising numbers of MPs doesn’t mean fair pay. Women still get 17% less than men at the same positions. But more important that women because of traditional family structures are not allowed to work or leave homes for work.

Special People
Around 1 Billion people around the world experience different kind of disabilities or have special needs. It means 1 of every 7 person in the world. These disabilities can be physical, mental or developmental. However, having problems in their body doesn’t mean that people don’t still live their lives; and making their live as much normal as possible is essential. Main challenges people with special needs are experiencing is usually physical barriers in daily life and healthcare, as well as access to work and education. This is the reason why global sustainable development goals inspire social entrepreneurs to engage more with technology which helps special people, making their lives easier, providing access to essential requirements.
